Italiano…Pizzaria

Quick running at four stopovers between trains and 8 hours later we are here in Italy. Bellissimo! The sun continues to shine, we continue to lather up in sunscreen and walk many miles in sweltering 35 degree heat. Not as many miles as tomorrow though. We are about to embark on one of the many much anticipated parts of this trip…Cinque Terre. In order to get ready for this walk, we carbo and sugar loaded! Or maybe we just used this as an excuse to eat pizza and not one, but two servings of gelato…equating to four pretty large scoops.

It has been a lovely afternoon strolling through La Spezia. In usual form, we got lost at one point trying to look for a supermarket. A very sweet old Italian lady, who spoke not a word of English, walked us to the shop despite having very painful sores on her feet. She understood us as we put an ‘o’ on the end of supermarket! Supermarketo! Love Italian. This made up for the grumpy old man in the Pizzaria who begrudgingly served us and then charged us a ‘service fee.’ Walking back to our hotel, Shaun lost €5 out of his pocket and we haven’t heard the last of how annoyed he is yet. Lets just hope our lovely Italian lady finds it for her outstanding local service!

Ciao for now!
